This year’s Pursuit Race, to decide the club’s Champion of Champions, will take place on Saturday 29 August, warning signal at 1455.

The provisional starting times for the main racing classes are shown in the Sailing Instructions for the Pursuit Race which are available here.  These include start times for the following classes: Flying Fifteen, Sonata, River, Glen, Waverley, RS 400, Bahia, ILCA 4,6 and 7 and RS Feva.  Because of too great a difference in size and speed, the race is not open to Optimists or Toppers.

Owners of cruisers and other boats not in the above classes who wish to take part should enter by emailing John Gilmore at vc@slyc.co.uk or Ian Bogie at sailing@slyc.co.uk so that starting times may be calculated for them. Please do this as soon as possible and no later than 1600 on Thursday 21 August.

For those unfamiliar with the format, this is a handicap race in which the slower boats start first and are pursued by the faster ones.  First across the finish line wins.  It’s a great opportunity for a fun race against other members and boats that you normally don’t meet on the race course.  There will be a prize-giving in the bar after racing and this year we will also have the very popular food van from Fun Fridays, so why not stick around and make the most of the last Saturday of August?

If anyone has any questions, please contact John Gilmore on 07500 118243.
