In recent years there has been a surge of interest in model boats both at our own club at SLYC and elsewhere with events held at several clubs. These little yachts are DragonForce 65 radio controlled one design sailboats and were designed by a group of three men in the UK. They have now become the largest one design class in the World. They are manufactured by Joysway RC Hobby in China.
A small fleet of 8 to 10 boats has been set up at SLYC and races regularly from the club pontoons on Saturday mornings, weather permitting. These little yachts are very affordable and can be easily purchased partially built. They do test the skills of their operators and require considerable practice to develop an expertise but it is very rewarding and great fun. The club does not encourage under 14 year olds to race.
