Pursuit Race 2025

Eighteen boats took part in this year’s Pursuit Race. The weather was perfect, with a steady moderate breeze.

At 1505, the Waverley Merrilies, sailed by Owen Blair and Matt Berry, led the fleet off the start line, followed by the Folkboat Rio, skippered by Julian Marshall.  The remaining competitors followed at their allotted times until finally Adelante, last year’s winners, set off in hot pursuit.

A navigational error cost Glen Cuan precious time at the head of the pursuing pack.  The gaps began to close but gradually it became clear that there would not be a repeat of last year’s photo finish between Merrilies and Adelante.

At the 1630 finish time, Merrilies crossed the rolling finish line as emphatic winners, well clear of Glenoe and Glen Cuan.

In the clubhouse afterwards, a special prize was awarded to George McIlveen, the youngest helm, who sailed a great race in the club’s Laser Stratos, crewed by his father.  Owen and Matt received the beautiful George and Nadia Bloch Trophy to great acclaim.  A wonderful trophyfor worthy champions!
