The club successfully hosted the CH Marine Optimist Ulster Championships over the weekend of 16/17 May.
More than 120 sailors from across Ireland took part, making this the biggest single-class event in Northern Ireland in 2026. Families remarked on our excellent sailing waters & facilities, and, in particular, the friendliness & helpfulness of our members.
What truly made the event was the contribution of 100+ volunteers both on and off the water. We received many messages praising the championships and noting our volunteers set the event apart. New friendships within the club were cemented as everyone pulled together to showcase SLYC at its best.
Generous sponsorship from CH Marine was important in making an event of this scale viable.
To cap off a great weekend, Ollie Gundersen won the Junior Main Fleet and four SLYC sailors in the Regatta fleets received prizes. You can read a full report on the racing in Afloat: here.
